Sardar Patel was born in Nadiad, in the Kaira district of Gujarat on 31st October 1875 into a family of patriots. His family belonged to a class of cultivators, known for their simple character, industrious habits and straightforward dealings. He did his schooling in Nadiad High school. As a school boy only he possessed an ingenious mind. In 1897 he passed his matriculation examination.
