Donate blood for the revolution!

Anna Hazare’s movement is getting bigger and better. The time has come. The country is on it’s toes for a change. A positive change. A sustained and long-lasting change. Let’s do out bit. We can walk on streets for an extra mile. We can shout a few extra slogan and contribute. We can even ensure that the Jan Lokpal bill gets accepted and a less-corrupt governance is established. But does the wheel stop turning here?

Newer issues will crop up. Issues which have been hovering on our nation for quite sometime now. Dengue, malaria and chikungunia have hit the nation. People suffer and even die of these diseases. Villages after villages are swept. And we have the faceless system to blame. We blame the government for unhygienic streets and colonies. We blame the blood banks for blood shortage. We will blame the authorities for inadequate facilities in the hospitals. But do we realize? A part of the solution is as well in our hands?!

No matter how unglamorous it sounds when compared to adopting an orphan or educating children, blood shortage is a serious problem for our nation. Millions of people DIE because we don’t donate. Millions of villagers spend their last penny and come to the nearby cities for medical treatment. And in these huge hospitals they are told- “get 6 bags of blood. It is unavailable in our blood bank”. This innocent villager, lost in the city, literally begs for blood on the streets. He often ends up loosing his child’s life, his mother’s life. Sounds dramatic? Well, in India one out of two blood requests is said a no in blood banks due to lack of stocks. Every single day in India, this story is replayed with changed characters. And this one time, not the government, but we are the solution!

I don’t know about others, but I link nation to it’s people. And I relate nationalism with serving the people of this nation. One of the revolutions we can participate in, is the Rakta Kranti‘- the blood revolution! All you need to do is spend 20 minutes, every 3 months in a sustained manner, till you are 60 years old. Donate Blood once in every three months! Go to the nearest voluntary blood bank and donate. Go to the nearest blood donation camp and donate. Do whatever it takes, but flood the blood banks with voluntarily donated blood!

In support of Anna’s revolution, let’s donate blood. Let’s bring the blood revolution that saves a pregnant mother, an accident victim. Let this monsoon see no blood shortage. Let this monsoon witness no death due to hideous diseases like dengue and malaria. Let blood be available like glucose in every blood bank.

Wherever you are, staging a protest against corruption or sitting in your rooms reading this, it is very likely that you will see a blood donation camp being organized nearby. It is very likely that there is a blood bank nearby, struggling to keep stocks from going down to zero. Come ahead and donate blood. This monsoon, let the life you save, be greatest gift can give to your motherland!

Let’s donate blood and support Anna!

Jai Hind!
