Rakta Kranti Karnataka: Phase 1 Complete

In the first test that RK Colleges was put through after Sankalp expanded to Karnataka state wide organization. With Shimoga, Davangere, Mysore, Bellary, Kolar, Dharwad being the target districts, variation (in terms of even climate and Voluntary Blood Donation concepts) and lessons learnt were different.

Here is what was done till now.

Davangere: A blood donation drive was organized in AVK Women's college. 52 life-saviour units were collected. These units were given to Bapuji Hospital. Another drive to be held is postponed to January.

Mysore : There have been 2 drives held in Mysore. The first one was held in Maharani and other in Vidya Vardhaka College. Total of 65 units were collected in both together. Another drive which was planned got postponed to January.

Other points: In both districts we found very enthusiastic volunteers. Donor database is building up in these districts. In both districts many other colleges also visited for Emergency Donor database build up. Rigorous work will follow on the same lines.

Bellary: Sankalp triggered one drive. Following that everything else was done by the College and blood bank. Sankalp did not attend the drive. Government is planning to conduct more drives there. Sankalp is in touch with blood banks and the district officials for conducting more drives.

Kolar, Dharwad: Colleges have been visited in both these districts and things have been set up. Drives are scheduled in January. Here again, we met teams of students who will help build a Emergency Donor database in their respective districts.

So in general, things are moving, and after the exams in November and December we plan to restart in January with phase 2 where we will visit them back and also cover Raichur and Gulbarga.
