Independence Day 2010

2010-08-10 10:48

Volunteers of Sankalp Indian Foundation celebrated the 63rd independence Day. The program started with the singing of the National Anthem. What followed was a rich discussion in which volunteers shared the ways in which they celebrated the festival of independence when they were young. Then we had a discussion on the relevance of patriotism and the role that individuals like us can play to be truly deserving the independence that we have got.

Projects Undertaken

The following are the various projects undertaken by Sankalp under Project Tiranga.

The truth behind Bhopal

After the clumsy decision over Bhopal Gas Tragedy, in the past few days, newspapers and news channels have asked a question- "has the system failed us?" After writing yesterday's article, I woke up in the middle of the night, and a question disturbed me- 'who' is this 'system'?

Bhopal gets justice, or does it?

Dec 2, 1984, the Union Carbide pesticide plant in Bhopal leaked poisonous methyl isocyanate gas and killed 15,274 helpless men, women and children. Lakhs more were permanently maimed. Bhopal was, and remains, the world’s worst chemical industry disaster ever witnessed by mankind.

Mangal Pandey

Mangal Pandey, whose name is often preceded by Shaheed meaning a martyr in Hindi, was an Indian soldier during the pre-independence era.

Captain Manoj Pandey

Born on 25 June 1975 in family of Shri Gopi Chand Pandey, Captain Manoj was a brilliant student & sportsman. He was always top in his academics & won hundreds of certificates and cups during his schooling. He cleared NDA in his first attempt, in his SSB interview his assessor asked why do you want to join army-he replayed, to get PARAM VIR CHAKRA.& he got it. He was awarded Param Vir Chakra for his courage and leadership during adverse times.

Khudiram Bose

British once organized an exhibition in Medinipur in Bengal. Their intention was to hide the injustice of the British using articles like pictures and puppets, and display that British were helping the people of India. Suddenly a 16 years old boy appeared with a bundle of hand-made bills, titled 'Sonar Bangla'. It carried the slogan Vande Mataram'. The true purpose of the British in putting up the exhibition was also exposed. He calmly distributed the hand bill to villagers around. When a policeman caught hold of the boy's hand, he jerked free his hand, powerfully struck the nose of the policeman, snatched his handbills, and roared, "Take care, don't touch my body! I will see how you can arrest me without a warrant."

Shaheed 2010

Just the beginning of another usual weekday. Most people are still counting down the days towards the weekend and others are going on without any difference in their lives. But for a small group of people, 23rd March, the tuesday held a special meaning. In the evening when people were going on with their usual evening walk in Sankey tank, they saw this group of people working silently setting up a gallery of Revolutionaries.
