Meaningful progress is often built through many people coming together with a shared purpose, and April reflected exactly that through two important initiatives focused on supporting families affected by thalassemia.

Sankalp conducted a series of HLA camps across Andhra Pradesh in April, reaching multiple districts and supporting families in their journey towards a potential cure. A total of 60 families were covered through camps held in Srikakulam (38), Kakinada (14), Kavali (6), and Eluru (2), reflecting steady outreach across the region.

Some days don’t announce themselves loudly, but still manage to leave behind something warm and lasting.

Jainish Nakum’s life began with struggle when he was diagnosed with thalassemia major at just seven months old. What followed were years of hospital visits, blood transfusions, and constant care as his parents Jaman and Mital worked to keep him stable.

Amid this journey, the family welcomed their younger son, Drumil, bringing hope into their lives. However, a cure felt distant due to the cost and complexity of treatment, especially HLA testing required for a bone marrow transplant.

Virat’s parents, Nemichand and Seema, saw their lives change completely when their young son was diagnosed with thalassemia major in infancy. What followed were years shaped by transfusions, medical care, and the constant effort to protect his health.

Despite the challenges, the family found strength in one another, raising their daughters alongside Virat and holding on to the hope that a cure might one day be possible. Yet the absence of a fully matched donor made that path feel uncertain.
