Blood donation drive at MSRIT

The baton is being passed. When Sankalp was born, people doubted the number of days that it would continue to work. When Sankalp volunteers passed out of MSRIT, there were doubting Thomamses who believed that there is little to expect from MSR Memorial Blood Donation Services. After a year, when the last of the Sankalp senior volunteers are on the verge of passing out of MSRIT, they are continuing the tradition. They are passing the baton handed over to them by their seniors in college. They are passing on the responsibility of keeping the work going.

On 6th May, 2008 the blood donation drive held in MSRIT was special in many ways. The first and second year volunteers of Sankalp took it upon themselves to be front runners for the cause of blood at MSRIT.

As always, the blood donation drive hit it's targets right and 35 life savers came up to donate blood. Ensuring safety of the donor above everything else, 3 were deferred from donating blood and 32 people went ahead to give the gift of life. It is because of the immense contribution of these young blood donors that MSRIT today has made a special place for itself in the blood donor community of Bangalore

These blood donation drives that are being organized at MSRIT in short intervals have found so much appreciation and support with the senior medical staff that we have been receiving requests to take it to other institutions as well. Dr Uma Bai, one of the senior most blood transfusion experts has committed to setting up a similar unit in other parts of the city soon.

Congratulations to the staff, students and management of MSRIT. They show the way :)
