Blood Donation Organisation going ahead strongly

Emergency Wing:
There were 8 blood requests in the previous week. Because of good stocks in the city, known through CTC Disha, most of the blood requests were fulfilled by calling either 1062 or other blood banks in the city. Out of these requests, one of them was for single donor platelets Apheresis and other for Bombay group.

Bombay group is a rare group almost considered as a sub-group of blood group O. It is proven that, 1 in 17600 people has Bombay blood group. The request which Sankalp got this week was like this: a person met with an accident, had multiple fractures and was very critical. The donors from our database had donated recently, thus could not donate this time. Ramaiah blood bank had 2 donors in its database. When contacted, one of them came forward and donated. The operation was done with only two units. This request was also a learning experience to our volunteers.

With the beginning of the semester in MSRIT, all the volunteers are back from the holidays. Thus, the Karnataka Wide Blood Search has been resumed and a registration drive in IISc is being planned in the weeks to come.

Rakta Kranti:

(a) Schools: The competitions in R.T.Nagar Public school will be held this week. And the Blood Awareness Week will start in Kendriya Vidyalaya (Jalahalli). With the beginning of college, the volunteers will now organise most of the programs on Saturdays and other holidays.

(b) Companies: The blood donation drive held in Komarla Apartments started off the drives for Rakta Kranti drives, for the winter. About 36 people came forward to donate, but 23 units were collected at the end of the day (13 were deferred for various reasons). The highlights about this camp was that, there was a 18year old and a 58year old (the extremes of the age criteria for donating blood) donating blood, both for the first time.
