Sankalp events @ Bangalore

Sankalp India Foundation had an evenful October at Bangalore. Amid all the celebrations and festivities of Dusshera, Diwali volunteers made sure they stuck o their core jobs to ensure the organiation's work never came to a halt. Here is a snapshot of what happened in the previous month in Bangalore for Sankalp

Rakta Kranti Bangalore

The Rakta Kranti Bangaore team scored a triple century yet again. The team organised 3 blood donation drvies and collected 350 units of blood. First in the series was at Logica. It was the 4th blood donation drive that was held here in association with Sankalp and 181 units were collected during the drive. The team red volunteers have been consistently educating and motivating employees of the company to donate blood. That has been the sole reason behind success of the drive. This is onoe organisation who are keen for atleast 2 blood donation drives a year. Kudos to the entire workforce at Logica for being the light in someone's life time and again. Next was AMD. The 5th Blood donation drive by Sankalp was held and 37 units were collected. Here too, the response from the company has been consistent and the support of the team red volunteers has been the driving force behind the success of the drive. 3 cheers to the AMD team as well. Finally the last drive of the month wa at HSBC. The dates for the drive were planned a month back and since then the team red volunteers of the company started with the awareness and motivation programme for the employees. The result was which we had 165+ donors turning up with 132 of them donating blood. This is Sankalp's second blood donation drive here and the response was a good one again. Rashtrothana Blood Bank, NIMHANS blood Bank, IGI Blood Bank and ESI Hospital Blood Bank are the ones who collected blood in all these 3 drives. Thanks to them too for being there always and giving life another chance

MSRMBDS

MSRMBDS, or MS Ramiah Memorial Blood Donation Services is a unique concept planned by Sankalp. MS Ramiash Hospital Blood Bank is one of the major Blood Banks in North Bangalore. Almost all of the requsts in the northeren half of the city are in a way redirected to this place. Hence the requirement for blood here is immense. At the same time there are a multitude of colleges inside the MS Ramiah campus where there are thousands of students pursuing various courses. This simply means that there are thousands of donors. Sankalp India Foundation bridged this gap. It got all the colleges in the campus to conuct small blood donation drives. So whenever the blood bank is low on stocks Sankalp volunteers conduct a blood donation drive in any of the various institutions. The aim is to collect 35-40 units of blood. Almost once in every 15-20 days there is a blood donation drive of this sort. Last month a blood donation drive was held at MS Ramiah Institute of Mangement. 37 students donated blood and this helped up the stock positions at the Blood Bank

Rakta Kranti Schools

The Rakta Kranti schools team is going through a mini revival this semester. After a relativley quiet start, the volunteers are at it once again grabbing eery opportunity to educate young students aboout the facts of blood donation. Last month the team visited 2 schools and enlightened hundres of kids. Many volunteers from other wings are also being trained so that all volunteers are in a way ready to talk to students on the need and importance of blood donation. For the coming month too some school programmes are fixed. With these efforts, it looks pretty certain that in 4 to 5 years from now, the voluntary blood donation index would have certainly improved

Disha

When looking for blood, things look hazy and people's emotions take control of their senses. Thats where Disha helps. Gives direction to the needy to the place where safe blood is available. Volunteers of the Disha team are responsible to ensure that all people looking for blood get to know of this number. Thats what is happening. The team is visiting hospitals in Bangalore and putting up posters and stickers at relevant places to make people aware of the helpline. Last month the team visited 25 hospitals in Rajajinagar, Basaweshwarnagar, Padmanabhnagar, Basavangudi, J P Nagar, Banashankari and Jayanagar areas of the city. One by one they are striking of every area and are playing a vital role to guide people looking for blood to the right places
