Let’s have a look at the major events that took place in the month of March.
Blood Donation Drives outside Bangalore
BSC Boys College, Davangere
Blood donation drive conducted for the 3rd successive year at BSC Boys College, Davangere on 9 April 2013. This is the only institution where the Principal extends whole heated support for a blood donation drive every year when Sankalp gets back to them. very good support from the college. A team red training was conducted and volunteers participated in the process on the day of the drive. 38 donors came forward to donate of which 31 were eligible and donated blood. Bapuji hospital Davangere was the beneficiary blood bank.
ExcelSoft Technologies, Mysore
2nd Blood donation drive held at ExcelSoft Technologies, Mysore on Friday 15 April 2013. Good enthusiasm from the HR and excitement from employees ensured that 71 units of blood were collected. JSS Blood Bank, Mysore collected the blood units. The company plans to do regular blood donation drives every year after the success of the first 2 drives.
Blood Donation Drives in Bangalore
TCE
4th blood donation camp was held in Tata Consulting Engineering Limited on 1st March. Employee participation was good and 51 units were collected in the event.
Proximo Tech Soft
Proximo Tech Soft organized a camp for the first time on 2nd march. In-spite of the limited number of employees who work from that particular office, the company volunteers were highly motivated and due to their efforts the collection swelled upto 51 units.
Aryaka
A blood donation drive was organised at Aryaka Technologies on 7th April 2013. There was a total collection of 29 units of blood from about 35 volunteers who opted to donate blood. This was the first drive in company and the enthusiasm of the donors was very high. A significant number of post donation reactions were observed in this drive. Steps have been taken to prevent such occurrences.
EMC2
EMC2 is one of the organizations that conducts regular blood drives. They organized a camp on 12th, 13th and 14th March. The drive at EMC2 was fantastic with several regular blood donors coming in to donate blood. The rate of repeat donation was very high at this office. The support and enthusiasm of the organizers was commendable. 324 units were collected in the 3 day event.
Syniverse Technologies
Syniverse Technologies organized a blood drive on 13th March. With about 300 employees in the company, more than 35 came forward to donate. 30 units of blood was collected in the camp. The blood proved a lifeline for the children suffering with Thalassemia.
Delphi
A blood donation drive was organized in Delphi on 20 March. The company did a great job in creating awareness. CSR team was full of young and energetic freshers which helped in motivating donors. 114 units of blood was collected in the event.
Bosch
First Sankalp drive at Robert Bosch saw a decent turnout of over 370 donors. On the same day a drive was held at Bosch's Bellandur and Bommanahalli campus. Effective publicity ensured that the turnout was really huge post lunch with long queues at every region of the drive. Donors were really enthusiastic and willing to wait for their turn. Finally 140 units of blood were collected in a 6 hour drive at Bommanahalli and 191 units in an 8 hour drive at Ecospace.
Jones Lang la Salle
First drive was organized at Jones Lang La Salle on 25th March. With 200 employees in the company employee participation was good. An awareness session was organized before the drive that helped in removing misconceptions and doubts about blood donation. 48 units were collected in the event.
Emergency Team’s Update
The month of March had been quite a relaxing time for the volunteers except for few Bombay Groups request which are now more or less daily affairs for the team. There were 45 blood request excluding Bombay groups . Quite interestingly out of these at least 40% requests that landed up were from outside Bangalore including the far off districts like Raichur, Mangalore , Gulbarga and Belgaum. What makes these requests special is the struggle for negative groups as 35.55% of the total requests were for one or the other negative groups.The team also managed 10 SDP request most of which were for cancer patients who requires very frequent concentrated platelets.
Bombay Group Requirements This month there was a total need for 12 units including 3 for the thalassemic kid and the rest for 5 different patients including 3 who were from outside Karnataka. For all these on 2 different occasion a Sankalp donor came forward to donate blood including one for the Bombay Group. With the end of the financial year the team has to now look back and review its performance over the last entire year and plan for the up coming summer seasons where there shall be huge scarcity in the state for Blood.
