Decision

It was normal day when few of my friends got placements. I was hurrying back to my hostel to have dinner as it was already late. As I entered the road to the hostel, I could see a crowd, some standing, some trying to help an unconscious person. I could see people trying to pull the victim, some holding legs, and some hands pulling him in all directions. The victim was actually involved in a fight where he was seriously injured and unconscious. I handed my books to my friend and then went forward to provide assistance. There was nothing that I could basically do except take him to hospital. In the meantime I tried provide him some first aid like lifting his legs, asking people to provide space for air and not to force water in his mouth as it could have a disastrous effect. In the meantime,I asked someone to get an auto and continued if anyone wanted to go with him to hospital. All I could see were blank faces. I decided in few seconds that I will take him, but had no idea who he was. There were few seniors who did ask me to leave him there itself as they didn’t want “police lafda”. There were times I got frustrated seeing people putting him into an auto with no one deciding to go and having seniors pestering me. That was it, I decided I ‘ll go. Come what may. We waste a lot of time anyways. Why not spend some of those with the police. At least in saving someone’s life , I shouldn’t be minding few police tantrums. I called a senior volunteer for assistance and went straight to Ramaiah. After that I did hear no words, no distractions. In the road to the hospital, I searched his wallet and came to know about him. Eventually I did reach the hospital. The senior Volunteer was already there for assistance. Luckily, there was someone who knew the victim. Our job was done. The patient was taken to casualty and we resumed our lunch. In this process, there were many flaws that I made. Most of which were in direct contrast to what I learnt during my first aid classes. Anyways, I did mostly right and I am better prepared for future. In case of emergency, if you see people in accident or injury where you feel you cannot provide direct assistance…. CALL 1062. They provide free ambulance services to all accident related victims. Please make sure that you tell them clearly the location and situation. Also make sure to clear your stand as in who you are and are you related to him or not. They will arrive in minutes. These ambulances are better known as OPERATION SANJEEVANI. As for my case, I knew what I was doing and seeing the situation, waiting for the ambulances could have made things worse. We all have choices in life. Either be a part of the crowd and be in your comfort zone or TAKE CHARGE
