Bravery

Recently I happened to come across this article and I felt like sharing it with all of you. I don’t think many people even know about this incident and at first it may seem to all of us that it is so normal and casual and what is so special about this. It may not be very extraordinary incident and there may be many of similar sorts but then this shows that what wonders such incidents can bring about if dealt with properly.

About a few hours away from Lucknow in a village this incident took place. This particular girl from that village had gone to the fields to get fodder for the cattle with her little brother. On the way back she had fodder on her head and he brother walking ahead had hansli (weapon) in his hand. As they were crossing the field Vandana (this young girl) saw three men approaching them. She used her sense and asked her brother to the village to get help. Meanwhile she was trying to handle them. One of the men tried to pin her down to ground and abuse her but she slapped him hard. This enraged him and he stabbed her in her arm. Then the others came down on her and she kept retaliating and fighting back as they kept stabbing her on her chest arm stomach etc.

Meanwhile the boy ran to his grandfather who was working in the nearby field. He ran to get help from the villagers. By the time they could reach the spot the men fled leaving her badly wounded only to pray for help to reach soon. When they brought her home her mother who is a heart patient fainted. They took her to Lucknow for medical help. In Lucknow she was treated. Also she lodged a complaint against those three lads and when they were paraded in front of her for identification she recognized them.

Now though the scars are deep but she still lives on with pride. She has become a source of inspiration for the many girls of her village. She is availed by the fellow village girls for help and advice. They come to her to solve their many problems. She tells them to fight back and not consider them weak. In fact the boys are petrified now and don’t tease them as they say that these girls can thrash them they are not weak. Now she wishes to complete her studies and then join the police force. She is currently studying in eighth standard. She has also inspired others villagers to send their kids to school and to educate them.

This aspect is what inspired me a lot. Today in this male driven society most men have become maniacs. They have forgotten how they have to and should respect women and womanhood. They are more interested is satiating their thirst. They violate our honour. Thus it is on us to maintain our honour and to fight back against those who can’t respect us. We have to show them that we are not weak and that we don’t have to disappear in the shackles of darkness when injustice is done to us. We too have a right to live with pride.
