One of the many amazing things about the pride of Bangalore - the Indian Institute of Science is that the students of this prestigious institutes have never thought twice before helping a person in need. The very special relationship that we share with the Student’s Council of IISc has in the past ensured that many critical blood requests were fulfilled on time. Continuing this tradition of enrolling life savers from IISc we organized the Donor Registration drive at IISc from 20th to 24th October 2008.
The target was to be able to meet and talk to all the students in IISc and explain to them the working of the Sankalp Emergency Wing . Involved in research round the clock the young brains of IISc need an assurance that they will be called to help only as a last resort. When they get to understand the working of Sankalp’s Emergency Team and the way we guard the patient’s interest, they come forward readily to register.
Eshita, our volunteer from IISc worked out all the necessary permissions and set the stage right for the 3 day event. We spoke to the students during the evenings – the time when they are relatively relaxed. This time the response was very good. Learning from the mistakes committed last year, we ensured that each person was explained the working of the team. The enthusiasm shown by the people and the IISc volunteers has been a great driving factor.
The total number of registrations done is around 650. This includes a good number of emergency donors, Apheresis donors and donors of rare groups. Providing immense support to the cause Sankalp is working for, this Donor Registration drive is taking all of us a step closer to our goals.
