Shatabdi Trains: The fast and the furious!

Shatabdi Express is the distinctive train service provided by the Indian Railways. In India, Shatabdi Express is a superfast passenger train connecting the major cities, metro towns and business centers. Indian Railways run a series of superfast Shatabadi Express trains to facilitate people in commuting to different places.Shatabdi Express are day-trains and they return to the station of origin the same day.

Shatabdi Express is an intercity train that doesn't cover long distances. It is one of the two fastest trains in India, the other being Rajdhani Express. Esteemed service of the Indian Railways, Shatabdi Express Trains usually run over short distances. The regular speed of these trains is known to be 130 kilometers per hour. However, the fastest train amongst the series is New Delhi - Bhopal Shatabdi Express, which moves at a pace of 150 kilometers per hour. The Shatabdi has advantages over other trains such as receiving priority in certain circumstances and berthing at the best platform at the station (generally platform number 1 at most of the stations).

Shatabdi Express trains offer fast connectivity with only a few intermediate stops. They are fully air-conditioned and of a much higher standard than most Indian trains. Shatabdi Express travelers are provided with snacks, breakfast, meals, coffee or tea, a one-litre water bottle and a glass of canned juice.Berths and seats in Shatabdi Express and Rajdhani Express trains have to be reserved in advance before boarding the train. There is no unreserved accommodation in these trains unlike most of the other trains in India.As Shatabdi Express are day-trains and return to the station of origin the same day, most of the coaches on the train have only airconditioned seats (called AC Chair Car) and not berths. All the Shatabdi Express trains have, however, one coach of first class airconditioned berths.Swarna Shatabadi Express is regarded more luxurious, whereas Jan-Shatabdi Express is a lower- priced variant of Shatabdi.
