Right is terribly wrong

A lot is being compared between India and US these days. But there is one major difference between the two that media, or people have failed to point out. The difference lies mainly in the constitution of the two nations. Their constitution is one or two pages long, whereas ours is the thickest book possible, which tries to define anything and everything under the sun! What makes US great is their 1st Amendment, that says-

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

An individual is hence protected from the tortures from the state. It disallows the state to suppress an individual for its own ends. Freedom of and from religion, freedom of expression, and the freedom of assembly is guaranteed in USA.

In India, the government more powerful than the individual. It exercises its power regularly to suppress individual rights- and we call ourselves a democracy! Here, we have a “right to equality”. Then we have separate laws for hindus, muslims, rich, poor, general classes and backward classes. In India, we have freedom of expression and then, we have several laws including the IT act of 2008 that prohibits me and my fellow bloggers from free expression under the clause of cyber terrorism. Right is terribly wrong with us!
