The emergency wing of Sankalp are always on their toes attending to emergency blood requests. Requests for rare blood groups, from places not heard of and more. All these have become a part of their daily routine. Helpling people find the right unit of blood at the right time has been the overall objective, and the team does it efficiently well. For the record in 7 years since it's existence not a single request for blood was dropped. Once a blood request reaches the emergency wing of Sankalp, it is for sure that help will reach the caller, blood will reach the needy
From quite a while, the entire organisation is expanding it's base throughout the state. Time and again blood banks outside the city of Bangalore have been visited or have been called up for some discussions, colleges outside Bangalore have been visited for blood donation drives. So the name Sankalp is slowly making it's presence all over. The Karnataka wide helpline, 9480044444 has been a major reason why people outside Bangalore get to know of Sankalp quite strongly. The Emergency team had to be ready for the challenge of taking up blood requests from remote areas of the state. The promise made to people was that if blood is not available in the blood banks then this team will do whatever is needed to get safe blood on time. Elaborate details on districts, local blood banks there, some interested people who can help with blood was shared to the Emergency team, by volunteers involved in Karnataka wide visits/work. This helped the team get a better picture of what to expect from where.
The tests started. Requests for blood came from different corners of the state. Some pretty straightforward, some really challenging. As the saying goes "Practice Makes Man Perfect", newer and stranger "cases" (the Sankalp jargon for a blood request) made the team work harder, smarter and better. They networked with people, got to learn and see more and are today comfortable and confident to take up requests for blood from any place in Karnataka.
To substantiate this fact and the effect to which people trust us, let's look at the this small stat: In the month of April, the emergency team of Sankalp received 100 requests for blood. Out of this 41 of them were outside Bangalore!. excluding other states, this meant close to 35-40% of requests for blood came from places where Sankalp is growing, from nook and corners of Karnataka. The team has been able to help out in all of them. Infact for the first time in Sankalp, 2 donations were held outside Bangalore. Mr Utappa, A Negative Blood Donor became Sankalp’s first out station donation donor, with the donation happening at SDM, Dharwad
Time and Tide wait for none, during emergencies time plays a very crucial role. Kudos to the emergency team for the quick and efficient work. The EW is surely building a stronger statewide presence to make a difference!
