Rakta Kranti Bangalore - First drive in EMC2, TCS, AMC Engineering College

Rakta Kranti Bangalore

Sankalp's Rakta kranti Bangalore wing organised 4 blood donation drives in the city in September, collecting 651 units of blood. The team had a challenging month as there were both colleges and companies having drives, and 3 ou of the 4 drives were first time drives in the organisations/institutions.

The first of the four was at EMC2. EMC2 has now located to a new campus in Bangalore and were keen to organize a blood donation drive as a part of their health check-ups that is done for the employees. Over a 2 day period blood donation drives were held in the company along with a number of other health related events. 173 units of blood were collected, with 90 being collected by R L Jalappa Blood Bank,Kolar and 83 by Rashtrothana Blood Bank. TCS was next. The ITPL branch of TCS decided to organise a blood donation drive. It was the first drive with Sankalp for them too. 94 employees donated blood there, with 47 units each being collected by Nimhans Blood Bank and IGI Blood Bank. Since colleges have begun again and students are there back in huge numbers, Sankalp RKB team decided to hit colleges as well. The results were 2 blood donation drives in September. The approach is a little different compared to companies. Here a comprehensive training is given to a few students who become the flag-bearers of the blood donation campaign in the college. They are given constant support to build up the entire event in the college. The first one was in AMC Engineering College where 154 students donated blood. This was the first time that Sankalp conducted a drive in this college. Rashtrothana and St Johns Blood Bank joined in to share the units. Then it was Reva Engineering College. sankalp has a long standing relationship going with this college. A 3rd drive in association with Sankalp was held here in the month of September. 281 donors donated blood. ESI took 75 units, Rashtrothana and Nimhans each picked up 100+ units. A lot of the young student volunteers were present adding strength to the belief of sankalp's plan to organise training and then a camp in colleges.
