A Rally to Promote Blood Donation

Submitted by aurora on

In days where rallies and demonstrations are more directed towards the unending list of political and financial controversies gripping the nation, one news that catches the eye is something that goes like this "4000 students take part in rally to promote blood donation".

Hard to believe actually, but it's true!. In an initiative to create awareness about voluntary blood donation, a walk was organized by the Rotary Blood Bank on Sunday 5th December 2010 in Rajpath. The event saw the participation of over 4000 school children from 45 schools in the city. The rally was flagged off by deputy chairman of planning commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia. With colourful processions of school children, students took part in demonstrations to create awareness for the importance of donating blood in front of a huge number of dignitaries including a few Indian champions from the recently concluded CommonWealth Games.

With voluntary blood donation indices stuck in the mid 50-60% range in India, this participation by a lot of school students only shows positive signs. Hopefully in years to come most of these 4000 students would become regular voluntary blood donors
