“How Could I Stop Trying When It Was My Daughter’s Life?”

When four-year-old Rumaysa was diagnosed, her father, Naushad Ahmad, had never heard the word thalassemia. Soon, some told him there was no cure. Others questioned why he kept spending. How could a father simply accept his daughter’s fate?

Naushad left his work in the Gulf, spent lakhs together and travelled more than 2,500 kilometres, searching for someone who could offer more than another reason to give up.

“Before Sankalp, all I could see was darkness,” he recalls. “Sankalp became the light that showed us the way.” Here, the family found answers, compassion and confidence that Rumaysa could have a future. She underwent a bone marrow transplant and, nearly ten months later, is recovering well.

Naushad still has a life to rebuild, but no regret. “I had only one goal! that my daughter would live. Everything else can be earned later.”
