Why we need to be proud Indians

"He who loves not his country can love nothing" said Byron. Our motherland nurtures us and grooms us into responsible citizens of the world. Every individual, must therefore love his motherland without any expectations and contribute to its well-being.

Ask not what the country has done for you, ask what you have done for the country. One's identity is basically linked to one's land of birth, and India our land of birth is vast from the snowy peaks of the Himalayas to the backwaters of Kerala. It offers us various blessings, so that we can be truly proud of calling ourselves Indians. India is a developing country which has made rapid progress in all spheres of human activity since independence. Coupled with brilliant past rights since the days of Indus Valley civilisation, India has made many achievements in the fields of art, architecture, culture and religion. Our Vedas and Upanishads, along with the timeless epics such as Ramayana and Mahabharata display how splendid the country was in the past. In the fields of science and technology, India's contribution has been immense. It was India that taught the world how to count.

Even in the field of medicine and education, our contribution stands apart. Ayurveda, the earliest form of medicine known to human civilisation is India's contribution to the world. About 2600 years ago, surgeons like Shushrutha undertook complicated surgeries like cataract, caesarian operations and fitting of artificial limbs. Indians were the first to navigate the choppy seas and the word 'navigation' owes its origin to the Sanskrit word 'navgaith'.

Our one billion plus population comprises of different cultural and racial groups but, we all share a common bond of Indian-ness and are a living symbol of unity in diversity. An emerging super power economically and technologically, India will soon find itself a place of pride. All we need to come up is the will to accomplish this. All of us thus, belong to such a country which along with its glorious past is marching confidently towards the future unveiling all its strength for all to see and admire. This reason is enough for us to be proud to be INDIANS.

We need to be proud of our Glorious past. It should be known to us. We must understand our roots. I was very glad to read this post. Pooja at the same time there is a little small topic that I will like to draw your attention to. In spite of the glorious past, heritage and culture that we have had, are we actually today dong things that make us proud of our country? I will take a small illustration to bring up my point. Consider the p[problem of people littering around. Anywhere in our country people throw whatever garbage they produce at the first anywhere they feel like. When such a thing happens, it does not make me proud of my countrymen. If these same people go abroad, they will not litter. Then why are they so insensitive here? I guess that’s because they are too used to look down upon our own land and take it for granted. People can easily be spotted discussing all the hopeless things that are going around. I feel pride does not come just by the stage of excellence that we have achieved. I feel I will be very proud to be an Indian if I and the people around me take charge and say-"No, I will not litter this beautiful country of mine!!". If we start taking pride in combating the wrong happenings in our land rather than push the blame on others and hide off ashamed of our existence, then the time is not far that we will truly have achieved those levels of excellence in these modern times too.. Vande Maataram!!

thanks for your words. I shall try and convince atleast people around me to realise how they are littering their own country which is not fair on their part.I'm sure a day will come when our people will realise that each and everyone has to do his/her share to achieve excellence. I understand what your telling.Recently I overheard 2 people talking about how dirty our country is becoming ,i just turned back to see who these people are who were telling our country has become a garbage bin,but I saw one of those men spitting out on the road. I feel it is not only cleanliness but we should keep a strict vigil against anti-social activities. I feel our people are becoming selfish. JAI HIND!

Its very obvious to feel proud of India's rich heritage culture and glorious past. But I would like to add something more. I feel that this shouldn't be the prime reason. To love and respect a mother its not necessary that she has to be rich or beautiful or full of virtues. Being my mother is the sufficient reason for me to sacrifice my life for her. Similarly, I feel being my Mother land, which gave me place to grow up and make my future, its more than enough reason to be proud of her and love her. Even if I were born in a country with no future and no past I would have felt proud of her who gave me opportunity to contribute in building up of a nation. My point is just that we don’t need to look for reasons to love our motherland. However I m even proud of my motherland's glorious past. This article is really motivating and gives us even more reasons to feel the way I m feeling now...
