Some time back a close friend made a shocking statement. The person said-"On mitigation side Sankalp has not actually done much." When I disagree I usually give a quiet smile and wait for the time when the situations and work can answer back.
The reason why I am sharing this is because I want to share the way one can actually take things positively and thereby make things in the world positive.
We had a huge gathering of students protesting against the reservation policy of the government. Two volunteers of Sankalp were also there. The situation suddenly became volatile.
And guess what? Sankalp Disaster Mitigation and Management Group was at work. Calming people down, Talking logic, Preparing for causality, explaining what can be done in the event of a lathi charge, analyzing critical situation, negotiating safe exits.. and maintaining the moral of people.
They could have been people who were driven by the heat of the moment. But they were not. They knew the things and were planning. Isn’t that mitigation.
Success or failure you cannot judge if you were not there. But things were happening. Something was being done.
Most wonderful part about mitigation is that it goes unnoticed if it succeeds.
