Changing Stands

Submitted by rajat on

"Sankalp was against camps, isn't it?"

"But you said that the following organization/person was reliable?"

"But this is not i-line with what we were doing earlier?"

There have been hundreds of occasions when we at Sankalp have had to change/modify our stand towards persons/organizations and acts. This to some people is un-acceptable while to the others it is slightly confusing. There should be a valid reason behind this change of stand.. is it not?

Please discuss whether the organization should stick to a once established set of policies and viewpoints or whether it should embrace changes as they come. Also, please express your feelings toards such changes.

I am with this organization from quiet a long time and i have seen any stand change and opioion change in this organization but that all are time demand and circumstances demanded.

When ever a stand is changed there a strong need fo it. Sankalp do not change its stand just otchange it. Stand are changes only on requrement basis.

From emergency donation to blood donation camp was on e of the stand change by sankalp. But clearly the reason to go for voluntary donation camp was inline with the vision of starting emergency blood donation service i.e no person should be refuse blood.

Hence to conclude i would like to say that policies and stand may keep on changing as we grow and proceed but the vision of sankalp is constant will be same always.

It is sort of difficult to imagine a group of artists talk about nuclear physics. In the same way it is difficult to imagine a group of engineers working for blood. But that is what it is .. Sankalp.. people from non-medical background working for the cause of blood.

When we started off working for blood, we had a system which had closed all it's doors to the eye of the public. I remember waiting for hours just to be able to talk to the technicians. There were two faces of the blood banking system. One that showed up in blood donation camps which had all the emphasis in the world over service and help and philanthropy and what not. And the other view, was the patient's view of the system when he/she were looking for blood and battling in-tolerance, in-sensitivity, and in-justice. There was no place in that system for a person to poke his/her nose in the internal affairs of the blood bank.

We have spent hours and days .. searching for blood.. We know today what is it like.. And this process has not been like an iterative task. I can hardly remember two cases which were precisely the same. Each time we started blood hunt, we came across now information, new dimensions and new problems.

Layer by layer we managed to penetrate into the system and take a more realistic view of it. Today we know and we see things not all of which can be told in the best interest of the public.

We did not keep things easy for us. It would have been easy to keep playing the same song and keep doing the same things.. Each experience asked for change.. To make things better and better each moment and to ensure that as many loopholes as possible are patched!

This is not over yet! We learn each day.. from each donation.. from each experience.. And we try to follow the closed loop approach of Planning - Execution - Review and then again Planning.. We will keep bettering our ways in the best interest of the bottom- line - "The Cause".

We do not change things to suit our convenience.. Each change we make demands blood sweat and tears.. And we readily pay! For most of the readers this may be philosophical.. but for you guys who have seen us work.. You now what I am talking about!!

And our answer to all the people who are our critics - "We Will Change!"
