Disha

The call centre equipment has been booked and the software for the equipment is being developed. The entire equipment is aimed to offer better Quality of Services for all the callers. The equipment is expected to be functional from middle of February.

Apart from the Call Centre equipment, the service of Disha will now include a new participant. Bowring Hospital in Bangalore will also join the initiative of making the blood search easier. While new blood banks are joining the helpline, the other hospitals in Bangalore are being the target of our volunteers to spread the awareness about the helpline. Around 80 hospitals were visited in the month of January. Areas like Jayanagar, Malleshwaram, Shivajinagar, Ulsoor, Frazer Town, Banaswadi, Tumkur Road, etc were visited.

Disha site is being extensively used and hospitals’ information are being updated on it. More than 150 hospitals have been updated and many more are in process. Within 2 weeks time we will be updating all the hospitals of Bangalore in it. Disha document is ready and a final version is under process, along with Disha KPIs and a semester wide plan for the tasks which will be taken under Disha.

Admin

Sankalp is a registered NGO, and this registration has to be renewed every year. The admin team of Sankalp has renewed the registration for this year. Sankalp has formed a Advisory board with the best-known specialists from the blood banking community. Currently the board consists of three doctors from Bangalore. They are Dr. Sunder (NIMHANS Blood bank), Dr. Nandakishore (M.S. Ramaiah Memorial Hospital Blood bank) and Dr. Sitalakshmi (St. John’s Hospital Blood bank).

Rakta Kranti Bangalore

There was one blood donation drive in Capgemini Indigo. There was good response to the drive and good results as 63 people out of 70 above registered donors.

The new institution in the list of institutions taking a positive step towards increasing the voluntary blood donation is ISRO. The training of Team Red volunteers and organizing a blood donation drive in February. Following this, there are three more blood donation drives in February. They are in Capgemini, ARM and TATA Consulting Engineers. Capgemini fixed for 3rd and 4th February and ARM fixed for 8th and 9th February and TCE on 8th and 9th February.

Rakta Kranti Schools

The blood awareness week programs were conducted in 2 schools in January. They were Priyadarshini High School and Jayalakshmi High School. It covered about 500 students with 284 students and 184 students respectively from both the schools. Both the schools are in the area of Lingarajpuram.

Emergency Wing

Sankalp Emergency Wing got 105 blood request in the month of January out of which 21 were from outside Bangalore and 3 cases were from out side Karnataka. In a single month, there were 3 Bombay blood group cases which were new and one recurring case of Kiran (who suffers from Thalassemia and needs monthly transfusion). Thus 4 donations were required which were managed and additionally, 2 units were transported from Mumbai due to unavailability of blood elsewhere in Karnataka.

There was a training session in NIMHANS where the session was based on blood grouping and post donation reactions and a brief discussion on exchange transfusion.
