Other places where Team Red was held in March was in Hubli. About 20 students participated from one college and the drive in Hubli college was held on 31st March. Colleges in Mysore and Bangalore are being followed up to conduct drives in the upcoming summer months to reduce the scarcity of blood stocks in the respective cities.

Rakta Kranti schools

The team is planning for the next phase of school visits for the next academic year for schools around June. The team is coming up with newer innovative ideas to spread the word about the importance of voluntary blood donation among sharp young minds who are the future potential donors. A banner is being designed, to depict the message, motivate the students to become voluntary blood donors when they are eligible. The template is ready and is awaiting its approval to go about amongst the students :)

One of the main learning from the last year for the team has been the difference in the knowledge the students have in different schools following different syllabus (like State-board, ICSE or CBSE). It was found that the students learn about blood biology at different levels in all these schools. So the decision is being made if the Blood Awareness week program has to be custom-made according to the schools or follow the standard program in order to suit most of the needs of all the schools. Presently, the level of discrepancy is being noticed.

Disha

Disha wing has raised the request and has started using its own internal website. The website is used to maintain the blood stock details everyday and also to log in any complaints onto the centralized place. The site is now being personalized according to the requirements specified by the team. Simultaneously the RCEs (response centre executives) are being trained to use the newly available website.

Disaster Mitigation and Management Wing

:

DMMG was not highly active this month. Regular travel and other lapses on the part of the volunteer in-charge ensured very little moved ahead. Hoping to see better work next month.

Tiranga

Project Tiranga celebrated Shaheed Diwas on 23rd March 2010 at Sankey Tank. It was an occasion to remember the sacrifices of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev. All our volunteers got together to pay our tributes to the Revolutionary Heroes. Read More

Emergency Wing

Success of Disha means more work for the Emergency Team. March marked a steep rise in the number of blood requests, specially from places outside Bangalore. Notable were two blood requests, one for a Bombay group from China, where we are providing assistance by knowledge transfer to search a donor since the request is due in later part of April. The other blood request was truly a Shattering Experience. The team is bracing itself to take up Bone Marrow transplant related requests more effectively in future.
