Sankalp India Foundation recently conducted a haploidentical bone marrow transplant (BMT) counselling session at the Shivamogga Day Care Centre, engaging 45 families in detailed discussions about treatment options and outcomes. Until now, no haplo BMT patient had ever come from this centre, highlighting the need for awareness and guidance in the region.
The session emphasised empathetic counselling, providing families with clear information, addressing fears, and explaining the life-saving potential of haplo BMT. As a result, 14 families have expressed readiness to proceed with the procedure, demonstrating how awareness and personalised support can empower informed decisions.
This initiative underscores the critical role of education and compassionate engagement in expanding access to advanced treatments. By breaking barriers of fear and uncertainty, Sankalp continues to extend hope and life-changing opportunities to children and families affected by thalassemia and other hemoglobinopathies.
