We have been working around the clock to build a good blood banking or networking system. It isn't just words that we utter, we strive to live every word we promise.
The volunteers of the Emergency wing have been literally on their toes this month, satisfying the blood requests of around 4-5 per day to a peak of 14-15 on one day, and that too for a blood group which seemed to have disappeared from the entire city. And what more, these blood requests included one from Delhi, requests for positive groups and Apheresis requests. And what was the experience like on this day?? Read here.
The requests pouring in now serve as an indicating factor to a bigger challenge. The newspapers have also started to give out subtle warnings about the impending summer season blood shortage in the city, or rather the entire nation. Preparing ourselves to face this yet another challenge and give it a tough fight will be one of our main focus areas.
One of the many ways we have chosen to adopt is to increase the capacity and efficiency of CTC Disha. With four new blood banks joining us (Apollo, Wockhardt, St. Johns and KIMS), and by organizing training sessions to the Response Centre Employees (RCEs), making a close follow up about all the issues raised in the Blood Bank Meet, stamping the Blood requisition forms of Hospitals with the information "Looking for Blood? Dial (080) 1062" to help better visibility of blood search option among the people, we are certainly giving Summer shortage a tough time this time.
Maybe the most frequently used word here is "shortage". It is not just planning and preparing for the shortage that we are involved in, but to start our work now. We were approached to organise Blood donation drives at many locations in the city of Bangalore on the same day by a group of volunteers who are followers of Sri Sakthi AMMA, in association with CTC team.
