Sankalp India Foundation has been running the state-wide helpline for blood since 2006. Any person looking for blood in Karnataka needs to call just a single number 9480044444 to get the blood availability information in the city. On enquiring the person is provided the blood bank's name, number of units available, the address and the contact number. Everyday the helpline gets 30-40 blood requests. However, because of lack of proper information with the callers, occasionally more than one call is needed to get the right information. Here are a few tips which will help the caller get faster and more accurate response from the helpline.
Let the right person call
Please forward the helpline number(94800-44444) to the person in-charge of the patient in the hospital. Avoid calling on their behalf. Some details which may be needed to accurately understand the need are best communicated by the patient's attender in hospital. Also this saves parallel searches which often lead to time wastage and chaos.
When you come across internet posts or SMS, please forward them the number and ask them to call in case the need is still there.
Confirm the component needed
Please confirm the blood component that is needed for the patient before making the call. Blood groups are like O+ve, B+ve etc.. Blood components are like whole blood, packed red cells (PC/PRBC), platelets or plasma. If you confirm with your doctor the component which is required, you are more likely to find the suitable blood bank in the first call itself.
Use mobile phones
Please call using a mobile phone so that we can SMS you the details of the blood banks. If you use the land line, please give a mobile number to send the details to.
By using these tips you can get fast and easy access to blood stocks available in the entire state of Karnataka.
