Work @ Sankalp April 2012

This summer month of April was one that had plenty of Sankalp events and kept volunteers on their toes through out. Here is a snapshot of what happened.

5 more blood banks joined Disha:  The blood helpline of Karnataka has been making a difference in the lives of many patients. A good 40 to 50 blood equests pouring in every day. In an attempt to find the safest unit of blood at the nearest geographical location a bigger and better blood bank network is required. Disha provides that platform.

This month 5 more blood banks joined hands in the initiative. Volunteers of Sankalp visited these blood banks, met the staff and management, had a look at the facilities and decided to invite them into the network.

3 of the best blood banks from Andhere kannada are now networked to the centralized blood helpline. Pandit government hospital IMA Blood Bank (Sirsi), Shripad Hegde kadav Blood Bank (Sirsi), and adhere Karanataka Rotary Blood Bank (Kumta) are now a part of Disha. Helpline stickers and posters have also been given to other blood banks of the area. With Adhere kannada being a part of the Western Ghat which is prone to accidents, integrating blood banks from the area and ensuring blood safety to patients there is a gaint leap for sankalp.

Apart from these 3 blood banks, Mahavir Blood Bank (belgaum) and Rashtrothana Blood Bank (hubli) are also a part of the network now. Disha is now networked to 64 blood banks of the state which follow thw standard pratices in blood banking. Now when a patient calls to the helpline for blood, they will be able to reach or further to these blood banks as well, thereby making the helpline more robust.

Sankalp extends its warm welcome to these blood banks for being instrumental in taking voluntary blood banking and blood transperancy to newer heights in karnataka.
