Sino-Indian War

The Sino-Indian War occurred in 1962. A disputed Himalayan border was the main pretext for war, but other issues played a role. There had been a series of violent border incidents after the 1959 Tibetan uprising, when we granted asylum to the Dalai Lama.

The Kargil War, also known as the Kargil conflict which was an armed conflict between India and Pakistan that took place between May and July 1999 in the Kargil district of Kashmir, came to an end on 26th July, 1999.The day has since been marked as Kargil Vijay Diwas (Kargil Victory Day) in India.

For many of us 23 March may be just another day in the calendar year when we get on with our daily routines. However, it is a day where we need to remember the greatest of sacrifices made by three young men in India’s quest for Independence and Freedom from British rule.

Almost one hundred years before India’s First War of Independence (1857), the adivasis (tribals) of Jharkhand had declared revolt against the British colonial rule. The first ever revolt against the landlords and the British government was led by Tilka Manjhi, a valiant Santhal leader iof the tribal belt in 1771.
