On November 14, 2011 Sankalp's India foundation supported the first thalassemia day center at Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health, Bangalore. Cerebrating 3 years of fight against thalassemia.
On 14th November 2011 a new era started when we kept our first steps in the direction of thalassemia care and management. All that we knew at that time was that we had to do something to reduce the suffering of the little children and try and give them a chance to survive. One small step at a time we learnt the intricacies of thalassemia management and care, strengthening our program to enable wholesome treatment to the children.
We were not alone in our journey. We received the participation and support of the finest individuals around. Selfless teamwork made the journey easy and ensured great outcomes.
In the past three years we have seen our priorities change. What started as a struggle for timely transfusions, was replaced by need for regular monitoring, thalassemia prevention, complication prevention and then targeted interventions to improve the quality of life. The coming year is what we hope to celebrate as the year of cure - when we streamline the option of bone marrow transplant for the little children irrespective of their financial background.
It’s a long way ahead. And we need your continued support and participation - to give life a better chance.
